Launching late January!

Cinematic Storytelling is a hands-on cinematography course designed to teach students how to use the camera to tell powerful, visual stories. Whether you’re brand-new to filmmaking or already familiar with cameras, this course breaks down what cinematography really is: the art of using framing, lighting, movement, color, and composition to guide emotions, reveal meaning, and elevate every moment on screen.

Across 16 weeks, students will learn how cinematographers think, plan, and create, covering everything from shot design, camera angles, and lighting setups to lenses, color, working with a crew, and shaping mood through visual choices. You’ll study real films, complete creative shooting exercises, and build your own short-film scenes, all while developing the skills needed to craft a consistent, intentional visual style.

By the end of the course, you won’t just know how to operate a camera, you’ll know how to make each shot say something. Students will finish with a polished cinematography reel that highlights their strongest work and prepares them for future film projects, passion films, or even professional opportunities.

16 part course, 1-semester credit (60 Hours).

Course syllabus, grading rubric and transcript description are available on your student dashboard.

Cinematic Storytelling offers two flexible learning paths, allowing you to progress at your own pace:
