Learn to Tell Stories Through the Camera!

We’re excited to officially launch our brand-new course, “Cinematic Storytelling” — a hands-on, story-driven program designed to teach students how to think, see, and create like a cinematographer.

🎬 What Is Cinematography?

Cinematography is the art of visual storytelling. It’s how filmmakers use the camera, lighting, movement, and color to create mood, emotion, and meaning on screen. Every shot you remember from a movie — the lighting, the framing, the way the camera moves — that’s cinematography at work.

This course breaks that process down step by step, helping students understand not just how shots are created, but why they matter.

What Students Will Learn:

Over 16 lessons, students explore cinematography from the ground up, covering topics like:

  • The foundations of cinematic storytelling

  • The Five C’s of Cinematography

  • Shot types, composition, and camera movement

  • Lighting (from natural light to stylized worlds)

  • Visual storytelling and emotional framing

  • Color palettes and visual continuity

  • Pre-production, on-set workflow, and collaboration

  • Production and post-production

  • Reviewing work and building a cinematography reel

Each lesson builds on the last, helping students develop both technical skills and a strong visual eye.

Learning Through Film

A key part of the course is learning by watching and analyzing professional films. Each week includes two viewing options:

  • One PG option

  • One PG-13 option

Every film is chosen intentionally and tied directly to what students are learning that week — whether it’s lighting, camera movement, color, or visual storytelling.

Built for Creators, Not Just Viewers

This course is designed to be active, not passive. Students are encouraged to:

  • Break down shots and visual choices

  • Experiment with their own cameras or phones

  • Apply techniques through creative exercises

  • Learn how real film sets work and how crews collaborate

By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of cinematography, more confidence behind the camera, and the foundation needed to begin building a cinematography reel.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is for middle-school and high school students, but we recommend taking Intro to Filmmaking first for extra help with some of the topics we cover.

Final Thoughts!

The Cinematography Course is officially live, and we’re excited to welcome students into this next step of their filmmaking journey.

Whether a student wants to be a cinematographer, director, or simply learn how to tell stronger stories through visuals, this course offers a practical, creative way to start seeing the world through cinematography.

Lights on. Camera ready. Let’s tell some stories.
