Announcing Our New Course, Intro to Screenwriting!

Are you drawn to the magic of stories on the screen and curious about what goes into making them happen? Ever dreamed of writing your own film but aren’t quite sure where to start? If so, our Intro to Screenwriting course may be exactly what you’re looking for! Let’s dive into what makes screenwriting so unique, what it takes to be a great screenwriter, and how our course can guide you from idea to screenplay.

What is Screenwriting?

Screenwriting is storytelling made specifically for film and television. Unlike novels or short stories, a screenplay is like a blueprint that captures everything audiences will see on screen— from character dialogue and actions to scene descriptions and mood. It’s the foundation for everyone involved in bringing the story to life, guiding directors, actors, and cinematographers as they shape the story’s look and feel.

A strong screenwriter thinks in pictures, carefully choosing scenes and pacing to create a memorable experience for viewers. In our Intro to Screenwriting course, you’ll learn how to balance creative storytelling with practical skills, transforming your ideas into visually engaging scenes.

What Makes a Great Screenwriter?

Many believe screenwriting is all about talent, but it really comes down to practice, persistence, and a unique point of view. Great screenwriters are keen observers of the world. They notice the small details of life, capture emotions, and turn everyday moments into powerful scenes.

But screenwriters are also team players—they understand that a script is just the beginning. It’s meant to inspire everyone who will work on the film, so it needs to be adaptable, focused, and engaging. In this course, you’ll develop these essential skills, learning to write original stories that capture the imagination of both filmmakers and audiences.

What You’ll Learn in Our 16-Week Course

Starting January 1st, our Intro to Screenwriting course in partnership with Filmmaker’s Edge, will guide you step-by-step from a basic idea to a polished short or feature-length script. Here’s just a teaser of what we will cover in this course:

- Story Concept & Structure

We’ll start with story basics, exploring the three-act model, the Hero’s Journey, and other storytelling frameworks to help you craft a strong narrative.

- Character Development & Arc

Characters make the story. You’ll learn to create memorable, three-dimensional characters who grow and change in ways that captivate viewers.

- Dialogue & Visual Storytelling

Screenwriting is about finding the right balance between what’s spoken and what’s shown. You’ll master writing realistic dialogue and learn how to “show, don’t tell” through visuals.

- Climax, Conflict & Emotional Engagement

To keep audiences on the edge of their seats, you need intensity and emotion. You’ll learn how to build tension and create scenes that resonate deeply.

- Revisions & Distribution

Every great script needs refining. In the final weeks, we’ll focus on polishing your script and look at ways to get it out there, from film festivals to industry platforms.
